We are proud of our traditional performance arts which include the eisa.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>The Tomori Seinenkai is in our 27th year since establishment, and at the beginning, we were taught the eisa by the Ozato Seinenkai in Itoman city. We actively participate in various events including sports events, festivals and traditional functions during Bon in the lunar calendar.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>Our drum-handling, movement of our feet, and synchronized formations accompanied by our local melodies are the great distinctions of our style of eisa. We are looking forward to our 14th participation at the Furusato Seinen Eisa Festival.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>The Oshiro eisa evolved to what it is today after being taught the art from Hamahiga Seinenkai. We have added our own arrangement to make it unique. All of our residents, from children to the elderly, participate in the various traditional performance arts that have been handed down through the ages, and the district is full of vitality where everyone enjoys the Tokeshi Festival held every year.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>Our activities extend beyond eisa, participating in various events and functions in the district and the rest of the village. We are always doing what we can to contribute to the district, and the Seinenkai has hosted events as well. We are dedicated in our daily eisa practices and hope to pass on the art that we ourselves inherited from our seniors.<br /><h3Description of Our Performance</h3><br>The Tokeshi eisa is headed by the Sanda, and then the large drums followed by the smaller and finally by the men and women dancers. The performance begins with the dance by Sanda and reaches an exciting climax that is both entertaining and inspiring.<br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>This is our fifth time participating in the Seinen Furusato Eisa Festival. We are an original eisa group, holding practices every week at the gymnasium of Okinawa Women’s Junior College. Our community loves a good competition! From baseball and marathons to volleyball, and various sports events, we are always active in our district. With original songs and dance, the community is always on the go.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>The Ohama Seinenkai is made up of 22 locals in their teens to 30s. Every year, we present to our residents the fruits of our efforts through recitals and other events. We also are enthusiastic participants in various local events, from coming-of-age ceremonies to seniors’ events, as well as traditional functions.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br><br>It is said that that the Shi-shi Lion Dance of Ohama began approximately 200 years ago. The powers of the Shi-shi Lions is said to cast away evil spirits during the Bon in the lunar calendar. It is a traditional event that we have inherited from our forefathers which is said to keep the family healthy and to bring a good harvest for the year.<br>Every district has a distinctive Shi-shi Dance, but Ohama’s shi-shi is said to be extremely fierce, where the Shi-shi enters the scene after a display of Bo Jutsu.<br><br /><h3>Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br><br>It is our first participation with the Shi-shi Dance at this Festival in 20 years! We are grateful for the opportunity given to us with the cooperation of the Shi-shi Bo Preservation Society. Our district, Kogusuku, is at the west end of this town. Overlooking the district from the east, our district is on a hill, and we are known for our sugarcane production, fruits and vegetables, stock farming, as well as the traditional event held together with our neighboring district of Tome. The Nise Rock in the sacred forest is also well known throughout the island.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>Our group consists of local Kogusuku residents, from elementary school children, the seinenkai, as well as seniors groups. The purpose of our group is to participate in various traditional events throughout the year, including the harvest festival, as well as to nurture the younger generations.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>The Kogusuku Bo Jutsu is performed in various functions in the district. Our forefathers and the officials from the Royal Shuri government introduced this martial art, and several other kata were added before spreading to the people in the area. Later, a style of Bo Jutsu where over 200 people performed in a group was introduced, and a couple of kata were again added to make the art what it is today. At the beginning, it was a group of elementary school children, but now, the members are between the ages of Grade 3 to adults. The children who were initial members have grown up and now are leaders that enthusiastically direct the eisa dancing.<br>Our main activities are opening performances for events in the district or those hosted by civilian and public organizations. The district proudly inherits a number of performing arts including the Shi-shi dance, Bo Jutsu as well as group performance arts. Our rich history and historic assets are deep-rooted in our lives, and the younger generations of our area continue to preserve our proud heritage.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>The core of our group consists of members in their 20s as well as high school students. Half of the members are also a part of the Shi-shi Dance/Bo Jutsu Preservation Society, performing their skills together with the seinenkai. Our activities have been passed on from the older generations and we contribute to the vitalization of our district with our proud local heritage. We have participated and won recognition in our performances and now, we are preparing for the district’s big event coming up next year.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>We will be performing an original piece that expresses the life of a hardworking man, choreographed to Ashimiji Bushi, a local song known throughout Okinawa and beyond. We are proud of the various cultures in Itoman, and particularly the traditional events that have been preserved here, including the eisa, tug-of-war, Hari boat racing and others.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br><br>Established in 1998, Kaji-mai is a group made up of members who love eisa. Based in Itoman, we have expanded our performances within the prefecture and nation as well as overseas.<br>Our original eisa and Shi-shi dance have modern arrangements, and we have also added the Kobudo, an ancient Okinawan martial art. We are true to our name which means to “dance like the wind.”<br>We are a happy, lively and energetic bunch and our 40 members range in age from Grade 3 up to 40 years old.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br><br>We are proud to announce that we won the Grand Prix award at the Naha City Original Eisa Contest in June!<br>We performed in August at the Shinjuku Eisa Festival in Tokyo, and we will be performing at the Shanghai Expo in October.<br>We will be sure to bring the powerful Okinawan wind in our performances in Okinawa and abroad.<br><br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>We are grateful for the opportunity to perform at the Furusato Eisa Festival. As many of you know, it is home to the Kadena U.S. Air Force Base which takes up 83% of the town, leaving the residents to live in close proximity to their neighbors.<br>Because the residents live in densely populated areas of this small town, everybody knows everybody. There is a good sense of community here where all of the residents enthusiastically cooperate in various activities by each of the district’s residents associations. The only downside to our town is that sometimes we are unable to hear our televisions at times, due to the deafening aircraft noise.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br><br>Our association is made up of seinenkai from each of the districts in our town. This year, in commemoration of the association’s 60th anniversary, we saw the successful holding of Kadena Town Seinen Eisa Festival, with cooperation from relevant organizations and the town’s residents.<br>We will continue our efforts to vitalize our town and to do all that we can to better our town for the residents.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br><br>The piece we will be performing is based on the town’s Muruchi Legend, which some of you may know as it has been made into a Kumi-odori piece.<br>Ten of our members will be doing their best to express the fierce movements of the Dragon, and we count on our audience to cheer us on.<br><br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>The performance takes a lot of energy and effort, and is actually more difficult than it looks! Up until 1914, before the prefectural roads were constructed, the village was a lively port town where the Yanbaru vessels anchored. We are a small district with a population of approximately 800 residents, but have a strong sense of unity that we are proud of.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>The Afuso Seinenkai members are a younger generation of the district, between the ages of 16 to 24. We happily perform our eisa, putting smiles on the faces of the elders in our community.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>Even the elders in Afuso are uncertain as to the beginnings of our district’s eisa. The uniqueness of our eisa is in the close formations while we drum, and also in the dance with unique shoulder movements.<br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>We are participating in the Seinen Furusato Eisa Festival as we hand over the baton to the next generation. The perimeter of the island is just 22km, with a population of approximately 5000 people.<br>The peak of the 172m high Mt. We continue to expand our activities, holding performances at Yaese Town Seinen Eisa Festival and numerous other events and festivals.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>There are various styles to the Bo Jutsu, from a single performaner up to three performers. We are also know for our other natural blessings such as the bonito tuna, oranges and acerola fruit.<br>The population is approximately 14,000.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br><br>In our 18th year since establishment, the Motobu Yae Okadan is a performance group featuring original dances. We participate in approximately 80 events throughout the year, with the members consisting of young men and women as well as high school students from within the district and also joined by other taiko drummers from other areas. Nowadays, many of our residents consist of not just the locals but of those from outside the prefecture.<br>Although we do not have a traditional form of performing arts, we are a lively district with the creation of original eisa and the hatagashira by the area’s seinenkai.<br><br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br><br>The Kanagusuku Taiko-kai is in its 11th year since its establishment in May of 1999. Although it is a smaller district, it is an energetic one, led by the enthusiastic younger generations participating in various seinenkai and other activities.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>Our regular activities include clean up throughout the district and our participation in the traditional events in the region. It is “our style” to be involved in the Yonashiro district activities throughout the year.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>Our eisa begins with the “heads” of the Yonashiro Eisa, Sanda and Macha, dancing and inviting the seinenkai members. The members are dressed in costumes with the basic colors of black and white, and each group of drummers, dancers and others dance their quiet, refined moves gracefully. Each and every movement of the dance speaks of the precious traditions that we have inherited from our forefathers.<br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>We’re looking forward to putting on even a better performance than last year and look for your support.<br><br /><br /> 2024-04-27T14:25:00+09:00 Ishanagira Seinenkai http://furusatoeisa.com/en/esa-group/index.cgi?pg=0055 Ishanagira Seinenkai Ishanagira Seinenkai<br />Program:Ishanagira Soron Angama<br><br /><h3>Our District</h3><br><br>Ishanagira, or the district of Ishigaki, is located in the downtown area of southwest Ishigaki Island, with 1700 households making up a population of 3700.<br>In our district is the sacred site of Miyatori-on, an ancient heritage that is rare even within the island, and a proud part of our culture that is cherished by the locals.<br>Miyatori-on was the heart of cultural development where people from surrounding districts gathered to make up the rich culture that we boast today.<br><br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br><br>Consisting of not just the local seinen including high school students, but those who have moved to our island from outside of the prefecture or even from abroad. We are proud of the various backgrounds of our members, hailing from completely different environments, connected in the common love of our district.<br>We believe that the source of vitalization of our district comes from the enthusiastic contribution from the younger generations. With this, we are active in various events throughout the year including the Soron Angama at harvest festivals. <br>In addition, we continue to contribute to our district by taking part in reviving traditional festivals, events and rituals, alongside the other residents in the district. Through these efforts, we hope to preserve our proud heritage and do our part in the various cultural advancement of our land.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br><br>Ishanagira Angama<br>Soron Angama is an event held by the seinenkai in the Yaeyama region during the Bon in the lunar calendar.<br>Originally an event for the warrior class, it became part of the lives of the farmers after the Meiji Period (1912~) and has been inherited by the seinenkai of the island’s districts.<br>In this performing art, the elderly couple wearing masks, called Ushumai and Umi, visit homes where they have been invited, dancing and displaying dialogue alon with their descendant(s), called Fama.<br><br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>We have not performed the Ishanagira Angama outside of our island since National Theater in 2005 and at the 44th Seinen Furusato Eisa Festival, two years ago.<br>All of us in our group are looking forward to perform our proud and distinctive art of Yaeyama, and hope that the audience will enjoy a different kind of Bon performance as that of Okinawa Island.<br><br><br /><br /> 2024-04-27T14:25:00+09:00 Uruma City, Esu Seinenkai http://furusatoeisa.com/en/esa-group/index.cgi?pg=0050 Uruma City, Esu Seinenkai Uruma City, Esu Seinenkai<br />Program:Eisa<br /><h3>Our District</h3><br><br>The population of our district of Esu in Uruma city is approximately 1850 residents. Our Shi-shi Lion dance has been a part of our proud heritage for approximately 530 years, since the 1440s. We have performed this dance at various venues and won the Award of Excellence at an All Okinawa event. <br>Our local Nakahara Elementary School was newly rebuilt this year, welcoming the students to a brand new facility.<br><br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>We have always taken great pride in our inherited arts and at the same time, have added new sounds to our repertoire. <br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>One of the main characteristics of our performance lies in the changing tempos of the melodies.<br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>The Esu Seinenkai is a much unified group, dedicated in our daily eisa practices. We have adopted a new melody in our eisa accompaniment and have added changes to the style. <br>We are sincerely grateful to the residents of Esu for their understanding and support in our activities. We are known as a ‘Base Town’ due to the U.S. military base which take up about 60% of our town.<br>Kin is also a town with a distinctive atmosphere as it developed with the mixing of diverse cultures.<br>It was also the birthplace of Okinawa’s overseas immigration project, making us the launching pad for the Uchinanchu who emigrated from Okinawa to various parts of the world, finding success and prosperity abroad.<br>Presently, the city continues its advances with the younger generations taking the initiative in creating a town rich with performance art.<br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br><br>Our group consists of 30 men and 20 women all between the ages of 16 to 26. We are a happy and vibrant group, always supportive of each other in our activities.<br>Every one of the members actively participates in various events and volunteer work in our area, bringing vitality to the town that we all love.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>We will be performing 10 various pieces at the Festival.<br /><h3>Our Aspirations for this Festival</h3><br>All of us are dedicated in our practices and rehearsals, and this year, we were selected to perform our art in the Orion Beer commercial, which has always been our wish.<br>We hope to show the audience the fruit of our efforts that we have worked very hard to perfect. With a population of 4500 residents supported by solid regional medical care (internal medicine, dentists, etc.), our land value has steadily increased.<br>The area boasts active local participation in seinen eisa as well as activities involving children’s and seniors groups. The “Tinbe,” which is a traditional performing art of Taba, is designated by the city of Uruma as an intangible cultural heritage.<br><br /><h3>Our Group</h3><br>The group consists of former and present seinenkai members, performing song, sanshin and taiko drums. We are actively involved to let others know of our wonderful district of Taba, Uruma City.<br /><h3>Description of Our Performance</h3><br>Diverse and various contents.
