Onna Village, Afuso Seinenkai
Program:Afuso EisaOur District
Located near the center of Okinawa’s west coast, Onna Village is thriving with rice cultivation. Up until 1914, before the prefectural roads were constructed, the village was a lively port town where the Yanbaru vessels anchored. We are a small district with a population of approximately 800 residents, but have a strong sense of unity that we are proud of.
Our Group
The Afuso Seinenkai members are a younger generation of the district, between the ages of 16 to 24. We happily perform our eisa, putting smiles on the faces of the elders in our community.
Description of Our Performance
Even the elders in Afuso are uncertain as to the beginnings of our district’s eisa. The uniqueness of our eisa is in the close formations while we drum, and also in the dance with unique shoulder movements.
Our Aspirations for this Festival
We are participating in the Seinen Furusato Eisa Festival as we hand over the baton to the next generation. We hope to pass on the tradition and culture of Afuso Eisa with pride.
